Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Is this a paid internship?
Yes, you will get paid $200 per project you help lead plus your food and housing will be covered. Most projects are only a week long, so you will typically get paid $200 per week, however this is subject to change based on location. You will not be paid for the training that takes place the first week on site, but your housing and food will still be covered that week.
  2. What expenses do I have to cover?
You need to pay for your travel expenses to the location you're working at plus any extras you decide to purchase during your time there. For example, if you don't like what the teams are eating one night and want to stop by Burger King or the grocery store to pick up something else, you will have to pay for that.
  3. Do I have to find my own housing?
No, housing is provided. What housing looks like is dependent upon location. You will need to bring your own bedding, however.
  4. What are the dates of this internship?
    Dates will vary by location:
    Appalachia, KY: June 1 – August 11
    Butler, PA: June 8 – July 27
    Chicago, IL: June 16 – July 20
Matamoros, Mexico: May 27 – August 10 (closed for 2008)
New Orleans, LA: June 1 – August 4

  7. What if I need time off for a major summer event?
As long as the total time you need off is five days or less we can work it into the schedule and it won't be a problem. Make sure to let us know well in advance to guarantee that you'll get your time off.
  8. Can family and friends come to visit me?
Friends and family can come to visit you on your time off. Visitors are discouraged while leading projects and anyone that comes to visit while you're leading a project must be approved by your Ministry Coordinator.
  9. Can I work just part of the summer?
We would really like you to commit to the entire length of the program you are applying for, which varies by location.
  10. How old do I need to be to apply?
We are accepting applications from 20 year olds who are willing to drive their own vehicle to the location they're working in and use it for their mode of transportation all summer. If you don't have your own transportation you need to be 21 or older to apply for this position.
